This past summer, we shared that EDENS announced Playa Bowls would be joining Burtonsville Crossing, offering smoothies, açaí bowls, cold brews, and juices. Recently, the shop owners were issued a $250K permit for interior construction.

According to a rendering shared (seen below), the new location will be next to Ulta on the TJ Maxx side of the shopping center. Founded by surfers Abby Taylor and Rob Giuliani, Playa Bowls was inspired by their surf trips to destinations like Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Hawaii, where they enjoyed fresh açaí and pitaya bowls. The menu includes Açaí Bowls, Pitaya, and Coconut Bowls, as well as smoothies and other refreshing options. An opening in the first half of 2025 seems likely.

Playa Bowls has expanded rapidly across the DC Metro area in recent years. In Montgomery County alone, locations have opened in Potomac (Cabin John Village), Kensington (Knowles Station), Olney (Fair Hill), Gaithersburg (Playa Bowls Darnestown), and most recently, Chevy Chase.
