Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream is set to open a new location at the Clarksburg Premium Outlets, taking over the spot previously occupied by Melt Cafe and Gelato Bar, next to Starbucks. This will be Mimi’s Handmade’s fifth location overall and its third in Montgomery County, joining its existing locations in Rockville’s Federal Plaza and inside The Heights Food Hall in Chevy Chase. While the exact opening date for the Clarksburg Outlets location has not been announced, signage is already up in the store’s windows.
Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream is named after one of owner Rollin Amore’s two daughters. Amore attributes the unique flavors offered at Mimi’s to his extensive travels over the past 30 years. The menu features a variety of creative options, including roasted banana nut, olive OYL, butterfly pea, and maple cashew, alongside more traditional flavors. The first Mimi’s Handmade location opened in Arlington in the summer of 2021.
According to Mimi’s Handmade, “With both Italian and German grandmothers, I inherited the secret family recipes from many generations, including the most delicious desserts. I can still taste Nona Concetta’s hand-cranked gelato and Oma Annamarie’s Bavarian creamy custards and sweets. Over the last 30 years, I have worked extensively in Asia, allowing me to explore the wonderful tastes and flavors of the rich cuisines of Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and Korea. Coming home from my trips, Alexandra, Mimi, and I would try all new recipes, exploring sweet Thai basil, azuki beans, black sesame, ube, jackfruit, lychee, and so many other flavors.
While we all like interesting flavors, we all love the traditional flavors, from French Vanilla to Oreo to Mint Chocolate Chip. Whatever your tastes, we promise you the best and freshest ice cream you have ever had, all made right here in our little store.
