Three Maryland Burgers Make the List of ‘Outstanding Burgers to Try in D.C. Right Now

While Maryland boasts numerous restaurants serving exceptional burgers, Eater DC’s list of “Outstanding Burgers to Try in D.C. Right Now” highlights three Maryland spots that are relatively close to the city. The remaining 17 entries are located within D.C., with no Virginia restaurants featured on the list.

Joy By Seven Reasons (Chevy Chase): Located at 5471 Wisconsin Ave, Chevy Chase, MD, Joy by Seven Reasons, which opened in late 2022, has quickly become popular for its Latin cuisine. While the Colossal Short Rib Sandwich, complete with black gloves for handling, is a standout, the burger also earns acclaim. Eater notes, “The burger comes topped with white cheddar cheese, homemade pickles, dijon mustard, and pineapple-prunes mayo.”

SOKO Butcher (Takoma Park and Silver Spring): Known for its top-notch cheesesteaks and steak sandwiches, SOKO, a local butcher shop and deli, has also gained recognition for its burger. With a commitment to locally sourced, sustainable meats, SOKO recently opened a second location in the Solaire food hall in Silver Spring. Eater describes the burger: “The smash burger features a house-blended, 21-day, dry-aged beef patty on a potato bun with American cheese and mayo.”

The Salt Line (Bethesda): The Salt Line, which opened its Bethesda Row location at 7284 Woodmont Ave last summer, has a menu which features a selection of beloved New England favorites (including a fun oyster shooter). However, the burger received high praise with its inclusion on this list. Taking over the spot previously occupied by Greek restaurant Kapnos, The Salt Line’s burger includes two ground chuck patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo, and a sesame bun. Eater comments, “The Salt Line’s version involves two ground chuck patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo, and a sesame bun.”
