The First-Ever Butter Chicken Festival Comes to the DMV, October 13-20

From October 13-20, the DMV will host the inaugural Butter Chicken Festival, spotlighting some of the region’s top restaurants as they serve up inventive takes on the beloved dish. From “Butter Chicken tacos to burritos and even spaghetti,” participating chefs will offer their own creative spins on the classic recipe, with a portion of the proceeds going to support World Central Kitchen (WCK), the non-profit founded by Chef José Andrés that provides meals during crises.

Festival Highlights

The festival will culminate in a special event featuring a live cooking demonstration and book signing with Monica Saigal (Bhide), an acclaimed storyteller and author of 13 books. Her latest children’s book, Papa’s Butter Chicken, will launch in early October 2024, featuring a foreword by Chef José Andrés. The book celebrates the joy of cooking and sharing meals with loved ones.

  • Casa Teresa – Spanish-Influenced Butter Chicken
  • Chiko – Sesame Butter Chicken | Chiko Chili Crunch | Furikake Rice
  • Rangoli – Rangoli Special Butter Chicken
  • Taco Bamba – Butter Chicken Taco

Each of these unique creations will be featured on menus from October 13 to October 20, giving diners a chance to explore new interpretations of Butter Chicken while contributing to a worthy cause.

  • Book Signing and Demo with Monica Saigal:
    A special book signing event will take place on October 20th—also known as Butter Chicken Day—at the Fairfax County Library (6450 Sydenstricker Road, Burke, VA 22032) from 3:00 – 4:30 PM. You can register for the event through this link.
  • Support for World Central Kitchen:
    A portion of proceeds from each Butter Chicken dish sold will support World Central Kitchen’s global humanitarian efforts.
  • Social Media Amplification:
    Participating restaurants and chefs are encouraged to share their unique Butter Chicken dishes on social media using the hashtag #PapasButterChickenFestival. Monica Saigal will also be promoting these creations on her platforms to highlight the chefs’ innovation.
