Good Fortune Cafe, a local fixture since 1994 (according to its website) , closed its doors in August at 237 Kentlands Place. The owners have since rebranded and returned as Yolo Cafe in the former Happy Uncle space at Germantown’s Clopper’s Mill shopping center (18022 Mateny Rd.).

Yolo Cafe has opened but is undergoing renovations throughout this month. A representative shared that the new cafe combines elements of Good Fortune Cafe and Happy Uncle. Previously located in the Beacon Place shopping center in the Kentlands, Good Fortune Cafe initially occupied a larger space before downsizing to its latest location in the early 2000s. Meanwhile, Bangkok Garden plans to introduce a new concept in the vacated 237 Kentlands Blvd. spot.

Good Fortune Cafe’s original menu, as highlighted in a 2002 Washington Post article, offered a mix of familiar Chinese-American dishes, healthier “Revolution Diet” options, and a variety of noodle dishes popular with families. While the menu evolved over time, many classics remained until the restaurant’s closure in August 2024.
