Each year, the Restaurant Association of Maryland (RAM) recognizes outstanding talent in the restaurant industry by presenting awards for various “front of house” and “back of house” roles. This year, Chef Gregory Webb of Laperaux Bistro in Germantown stands out as Montgomery County’s sole finalist for the prestigious ‘Chef of the Year’ award. Webb was also nominated for the same honor in 2024.
These awards celebrate individuals who demonstrate exceptional skill, dedication, and leadership in their craft. Following a round of public nominations, RAM selects five finalists in each category, with public voting open from January 1 through January 31. Winners will be announced during the RAM Awards Gala on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Ocean City Convention Center.
Chef Webb has earned numerous accolades throughout his career, including “Chef of the Year 1998” in Houston, Texas, and “Winner All Categories” at the Texas Open Wild Game Cookoff. He has also been named one of the “Top Chefs of Mexico City” and has received many other prestigious awards. In 2023, Webb opened Laperaux, a French bistro in Germantown known for its “high casual cuisine.” Beyond his restaurant success, Webb has competed against Bobby Flay on The Food Network and triumphed in several ‘chopped-style’ competitions at charity events, such as DC Central Kitchen’s Chefs Cook Off.
