Local restaurant group Moby Dick House of Kabob had signed on to open a new restaurant in Potomac’s Cabin John Village. The new location will be situated adjacent to Colony Grill on the back side of the shopping center, and now a timeframe for the opening has been set.
According to Store Reporter, the second Potomac location is expected to open in the first week of March. This new spot will not affect the existing Potomac Moby Dick, which is located 4.5 miles away in the Potomac Promenade shopping center off Falls Rd.
Founded by Mike Daryoush, who emigrated from Iran to the U.S. in 1975, Moby Dick House of Kabob began as a small sandwich shop in Bethesda in 1987, offering a few Middle Eastern dishes. In 1989, the menu shifted to a Persian focus, and the addition of a clay oven followed. The restaurant’s name is a nod to one of the biggest kabob joints in Tehran, near the American Embassy during the Shah’s time. The owner of that spot was a fan of Moby Dick, which is why he chose the name. Daryoush passed away on May 9, 2019, just a week after the chain’s 30th anniversary.
“The Moby Dick House of Kabob story is not unlike many other great ‘realize the American dream’ stories: have an idea, work hard to make it happen, create value for others, and your idea matures into a successful venture. Through it all, Moby Dick continues to be unyielding in the belief of “never cutting corners.” This is the inspiration behind the kabobs, gyros, falafel, baklava, and our other food items with the character that you love and crave.”
