Z-Burger/Maman Joon Kitchen is set to make its debut in Olney.

Maman Joon, a Persian cuisine restaurant, and its sister establishment, Z-Burger, are gearing up to join forces at 18100 Georgia Avenue in Olney. The location, formerly occupied by Taco Bar and Jerry’s Subs and Pizza, is currently undergoing preparations with permanent signage being installed.

Maman Joon boasts a diverse menu featuring kabobs, sandwiches, soups, salads, platters, desserts, and other Persian specialties. With existing locations in Tenleytown, McLean, and Tyson’s Corner, the addition of Olney aims to cater to the local Persian and Middle Eastern community. Co-owner Peter Tabibian expressed in an interview with FFXnow, “We thought there was a void for a Persian [or] Middle Eastern concept, and we thought it would be a great fit to put Maman Joon out there.”

Meanwhile, Z-Burger, known as a Washington DC landmark, specializes in handcrafted burgers with an array of toppings, fresh-cut fries, and a variety of hand-spun milkshakes and concretes made with premium Wisconsin custard.

Although Z-Burger previously announced its first location in Montgomery County earlier this year, the opening sequence between the Bethesda and Olney locations remains uncertain.

Explaining the concept behind Maman Joon, the restaurant emphasizes its commitment to creating authentic Persian food that reflects the heritage, with fresh ingredients, spices sourced from Iran, and treasured family recipes. The name “Maman Joon” translates to “Dear Mom” in Persian, signifying a connection to kinship, hospitality, and the cherished role of food in familial relationships.
