Good Ducking Burger has officially opened its doors, marking a significant transition from the renowned Bethesda fine dining establishment, Duck Duck Goose. Owned and operated by Chef Ashish Alfred, who received French culinary training, the new restaurant is situated at 7929 Norfolk Ave.
Chef Alfred, a MoCo native and a 2005 graduate of Magruder High School, decided on this shift due to the changing dynamics of the culinary industry. Despite the consistent popularity and packed dining room of Duck Duck Goose Bethesda, the rising operational costs began to erode its profit margins. The restaurant, cozy and intimate at about 1100 square feet, became economically unsustainable, leading to the decision for a more adaptive and sustainable concept.
Good Ducking Burger offers a fast-casual American burger experience with a distinctive twist inspired by Chef Alfred’s Indian heritage. The concept is not entirely new, as it had previously found success as a delivery-only ghost kitchen, featuring American classics like burgers, chicken, and fries. The shift to a more casual and fast-paced model reflects Chef Alfred’s commitment to growth and evolution in response to the evolving demands of the industry.
Chef Alfred, who credits Duck Duck Goose Bethesda for saving his life, acknowledges the restaurant’s initial success. Duck Duck Goose Bethesda achieved commercial success and critical acclaim, being named the Best Restaurant in Maryland by Southern Living Magazine. However, the evolving business landscape necessitated a change, and Good Ducking Burger emerged as a fitting response to the demand for a more sustainable and adaptable dining experience. The new venture aims to blend the familiarity of American classics with the rich flavors of Chef Alfred’s Indian heritage, creating a unique and appealing offering for the Bethesda community.
