NYC’s Chip City Cookies Opens First DMV Location

Chip City, the popular New York-based cookie shop, is set to open its first Maryland location at the Shoppes of Bethesda. Taking over the space previously occupied by Fancy Cakes By Leslie at 4939 Elm St., Chip City has generated excitement among customers and social media influencers. Fancy Cakes By Leslie closed its doors in October 2022, paving the way for Chip City’s expansion.

Started as a side hustle five years ago by Theodore Gailas and Peter Phillips, Chip City has rapidly grown, boasting over a dozen locations in and around New York. The expansion plan includes the opening of more than 20 stores in 2023, with significant support from Danny Meyer, the founder of the fast-casual restaurant Shake Shack. Meyer recently invested $10 million in Chip City, contributing to its ambitious growth strategy.

Chip City’s new Bethesda location features a rotating menu of 18 flavors, allowing customers to choose from a variety of options. The menu includes “core cookies” like chocolate chip or dairy-free chocolate chip, as well as innovative flavors such as blueberry cheesecake, peanut butter and jelly, Nutella sea salt, and more. The shop also offers seasonal selections, with Thanksgiving-themed cookies like Pecan Pie, Sweet Potato S’mores, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal.
