Anticipated Opening of Tex-Mex/Italian Fusion Restaurant in Rockville by Experienced Local Chef

La Speranza is soon to make its debut in Rockville at 806 Baltimore Rd., taking over the space previously occupied by Tia Ochi in the Burgundy Park shopping center, a location that has been home to Jonathan’s Sports Pub for an extended period.

While the exact opening date remains undisclosed, the restaurant recently underwent an alcohol license hearing with Montgomery County’s ABS last month and anticipates opening within the current month. La Speranza, as per its website, will showcase a blend of Tex-Mex and Italian cuisines, featuring a menu crafted by executive chef Neptali Mendoza.

Neptali Mendoza, an accomplished chef with diverse culinary experience, embarked on his culinary journey at the Michelin guide-featured Obelisk Italian Restaurant (2006-2010), working under the renowned chef Peter Pastan in DC. His initial roles involved learning the intricacies of Italian cuisine, including the production of fresh pastas and the behind-the-scenes dynamics of a restaurant kitchen.

Moving on to RedRocks Pizzeria in Alexandria, Virginia, Neptali served as the kitchen manager, gaining deeper insights into the operations of a successful restaurant and honing his work ethic. His culinary journey progressed further at Baronessa Italian Restaurant, where he held the position of sous chef, refining his skills in the art of cookery. These experiences laid the foundation for the establishment of La Speranza Restaurant.

Throughout his journey, Neptali not only accumulated valuable experience but also completed a rigorous training program offered by the Culinary Arts Program at Carlos Rosario International School. La Speranza is poised to offer a unique dining experience, merging Neptali’s expertise in Italian cuisine with his prior skills in Mexican food.
