As reported last week, Buca di Beppo at 112 Kentlands Blvd in Gaithersburg has closed permanently as of today, Sunday, June 23. This closure aligns with similar actions taken by the restaurant chain at multiple locations across the country, including in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Hawaii.
A representative from Kimco Realty, the property manager, indicated that Buca di Beppo chose not to renew its lease, which was expiring. Redevelopment plans for the strip where Buca di Beppo was located are scheduled for at least 2026, according to Kimco. Current tenants such as My Gym, Orange Theory, and the post office have active leases and are not expected to close in the near future.
In 2019, Kimco sought approval for a schematic development plan aimed at transforming the area. The plan included the redevelopment of an existing surface parking lot and retail strip into a six-story mixed-use building featuring 245 apartments, 12,125 square feet of commercial space, and 576 parking spaces for residential and commercial use. The Gaithersburg Mayor & City Council approved SDP-8146-2019 during their September 3, 2019 meeting.
