Town Hall, a longstanding establishment in College Park, which originally opened its doors in 1949, bid its final farewell on Friday, March 22.
Owned by the Burdoo family since 1958 until 2016, Town Hall was characterized as a quintessential roadhouse/tavern, complete with pool tables and an adjoining liquor store. Its patrons comprised mainly local adult professionals, a few college professors, University of Maryland alumni, and a limited number of college students. Ron Burdoo, the owner during its later years, made the decision to sell the property upon his retirement and relocation to North Carolina in 2016.
The property’s current owner, LV Collective, headquartered in Austin, Texas, issued 60-day vacate notices to tenants, including Town Hall, on August 1, 2023. Despite this, Town Hall continued to operate beyond the stipulated period. On December 20th, 2023, a post on Town Hall’s Facebook page exclaimed, “It’s a Christmas miracle! There is a temporary reprieve for our closing timeline. We are now looking at sometime in the spring for our last day of operation. We will be here for St. Patrick’s day and possibly longer, more info to come.”
Last September, the City of College Park’s Economic Development Manager engaged with affected merchants, offering support through the city’s Business Attraction and Retention program. Merchants were encouraged to consider relocating within College Park or utilizing the city’s Virtual Food preparation facilities. Negotiations have been underway for some merchants to secure new spaces within College Park.
LV Collective has outlined plans for a new building, including retail pads, with projected project costs estimated at $150 million upon completion.
