Despite the Rain, Hundreds Gather to Celebrate the Grand Opening of Red Ribbon Bakeshop

Red Ribbon Bakeshop successfully launched its Wheaton location on Saturday, September 23, amid heavy rain from Tropical Storm Ophelia. Undeterred by the weather, a crowd of hundreds, some arriving as early as 3:30 am, celebrated the opening of the bakery’s first Maryland establishment. Mr. Eugie Ariaga of Rockville, the inaugural customer, won “one year of sweetness” — a Mango Supreme Cake every month for a year.

Situated at 2501 University Blvd W, next to the iconic Anchor Inn sign, the bakery is part of the Jollibee Foods Corporation, which acquired Red Ribbon in 2005. Red Ribbon currently boasts over 200 locations in the Philippines and 39 in the United States, further expanding its presence since its founding in 1979 by Amalia Hizon Mercado and family. The bakery has become a notable player in the dessert market, known for its delectable cakes crafted by Teresita Moran. With continuous expansion, Red Ribbon remains a cherished destination for sweet indulgences.
