Four Maryland Restaurants Featured in Eater DC’s “38 Essential Restaurants”

Eater DC’s “38 Essential Restaurants Around DC” list highlights culinary destinations that define the DC area, including its suburbs. Four Maryland restaurants, two of them in Montgomery County, are currently featured on the list (last updated on January 11th):

  1. J. Hollinger’s Waterman’s Chophouse (8606 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring): This chef-driven chophouse and fresh seafood spot, opened in 2022, offers dinner options and a lavish Sunday brunch buffet featuring house-made items like slow-roasted ribeye, hot honey fried chicken, crab-stuffed deviled eggs, and more.
  2. Melina (905 Rose Ave., North Bethesda): Melina aims to share traditional Greek recipes with a creative spin, showcasing modern Greek cuisine. The restaurant, open since late 2021, is inspired by Chef Dimitri Moshovitis and Chef Aris Tsekouras, owner of Microwheat Bakery.
  3. 2Fifty Texas BBQ (4700 Riverdale Rd., Riverdale Park): 2Fifty BBQ, a celebrated barbecue joint rooted in the Texas barbecue tradition, emphasizes smoking meats over low heat for extended periods. The restaurant is known for its simple, affordable, and memorable approach to American barbecue.
  4. Pennyroyal Station (3310 Rhode Island Ave., Mt. Rainier): Pennyroyal Station, located in a historic building, serves as a cornerstone of the Mount Rainier community. Chef Jesse Miller, along with Erin Edwards and Garrick Lumsden, transformed the space into a welcoming restaurant offering creative comfort food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

These establishments contribute to the diverse and vibrant culinary scene in the DC area, showcasing a range of cuisines and styles.
