Gaithersburg Taco Bar Set to Reopen Following September Fire

“Re-opening Soon” signs have been erected at Taco Bar, located at 3 Russell Ave in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, signaling the restaurant’s imminent return following a forced closure due to a fire. This fire, part of an arson spree that occurred in Gaithersburg last September, necessitated the shutdown.

We’ve received word that Taco Bar is targeting a reopening date sometime in June, offering a menu replete with tantalizing items such as burritos, tacos, tortas, and soups.

It’s worth noting that Taco Bar also operates another location at 1450 W. Patrick St in Frederick, while its Olney outpost at 18100 Georgia Ave shuttered its doors in May 2023.

Please note that this Taco Bar is distinct from Taco Bar El Guero, situated at 10003 B, Fields Rd, near Gaithersburg’s Rio.

In September 2023, Fernando J. Herrera-Rivera, aged 23 and from Gaithersburg, was charged with six counts of 2nd-degree arson in connection with the aforementioned spree of fires. Herrera-Rivera’s arrest occurred in the vicinity of N. Frederick Ave that same morning, aided by video surveillance footage and witness testimonies. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The fires, which occurred around 2:30 am on September 17, prompted the response of approximately 75 firefighters to various locations, including the Holbrook Center across from Gaithersburg High School and Taco Bar at 3 Russell Ave. Damage was extensive, estimated at $1,250,000.

The owner of Taco Bar expressed gratitude that no one was harmed and shared plans to navigate the aftermath, collaborating with insurance companies while awaiting the conclusion of investigations to commence the recovery process. The aim is to resume operations in the coming months.
