Kung Fu Kitchen Announces Grand Opening

In May, we reported that Peter Chang, located at 20-A Maryland Ave in Rockville Town Square, was sold and is now rebranded as Kung Fu Kitchen. The restaurant features a new menu crafted by Chef MingYang Fang, showcasing a wide range of Chinese cuisines, including Sichuan, Hunan, Huaiyang, and Cantonese dishes.

Kung Fu Kitchen shares: “We are thrilled to announce our grand opening at the former Peter Chang location in downtown Rockville. With new ownership comes a fresh start, offering an entirely revamped menu, delightful teas, stylish decor, and upgraded seating, including options for parties of up to 45 people.”

Chef MingYang Fang, originally from a small village in central China, began his culinary journey at the age of 15 in the Jiangnan region, honing his skills in Huaiyang, Sichuan, and Hunan cuisines. Over the years, he has held head chef positions at prestigious hotels in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. His culinary expertise also took him to Toyama, Japan, where he introduced Chinese flavors to a popular local restaurant, winning over diners. After a three-year stint in South Korea, Chef Fang relocated to the U.S. in 2013 with his wife, Aixia Wu. For over a decade, he worked alongside renowned chef Peter Chang, refining his craft and creating new dishes. One of his standout creations is a fusion duck dish, combining the techniques of Peking Duck and Zhangcha Duck, resulting in a tender, flavorful dish with crispy skin, served with pancakes and condiments.

At Kung Fu Kitchen, Chef Fang is committed to using high-quality, organic ingredients with a focus on healthy, low-fat, and low-salt cooking, free of added MSG. The restaurant also offers a premium selection of teas, such as Maojian from Henan, Enshi Yulu from Hubei, Anji White Tea from Anhui, Lichuan Red Tea from Hubei, and Wuyuan Golden Chrysanthemum from Jiangxi. Sourced from high-altitude, pollution-free regions, these teas provide a refreshing, pure taste, perfect for business meetings or friendly gatherings.

A Family Affair:
Chef Fang, a rising star in the Greater Washington area, is also a proud father of three. His wife, Aixia Wu, shares his culinary passion, specializing in appetizers, dim sum, and tea drinks, and has crafted several unique dishes for Kung Fu Kitchen. The family warmly invites both longtime food enthusiasts and new guests to enjoy their offerings. Call to book your next event!”
