The McDonald’s located at 11301 Seven Locks Rd in Potomac’s Cabin John Village shopping center has temporarily closed for a complete renovation.

A sign posted on the store reads: “STORE CLOSED for remodel. Please visit us at Montgomery Mall! See you in a few weeks!” The notice also features a rendering of the revamped store’s design. Some residents first became aware of the closure when redirected while attempting to place online orders, as noted in local discussions on Nextdoor.

The temporary closure follows a period of uncertainty last year when the restaurant was scheduled to shut down in December 2023 due to failed lease negotiations between McDonald’s and EDENS, the property owner. Community support played a key role in reversing the decision. A petition to save the McDonald’s gathered over 800 signatures within its first 12 hours and exceeded 2,000 signatures in its first week.

In November 2023, franchise owner Keri Swenson shared an update on social media: “I honestly cannot believe I am saying this, but I think the community pressure and the petition WORKED!!!! The landlord called and was eager to sign with us. We are staying open.”

Meanwhile, McDonald’s recently closed its North Bethesda location at 11564 Rockville Pike. Construction is underway for its replacement, which will include a drive-thru and is set to open in the former Arby’s space at 11710 Rockville Pike.
