After closing its original Bethesda location in April 2022, Robert Wiedmaier’s Mussel Bar & Grille is poised for a comeback in the area. Recent reports indicate that the beloved restaurant will find its new home below Tommy Joe’s, situated at 4903 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda, as revealed by Robert Dyer.
Occupying the space formerly occupied by Paris in Town for approximately a year, the new Mussel Bar & Grille location adds to the area’s culinary diversity. This spot has previously housed establishments like Fuse Taco, Bold Bite, and Smash Burger.
Mussel Bar first made its mark in Bethesda back in July 2010, offering a concept inspired by old-world Belgian roadhouses, with a focus on Bière, Moules & Frites. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, with Chef Robert Wiedmaier infusing his Belgian roots into the DC dining scene. The Atlantic City location of Mussel Bar has since closed, while the Ballston location remains operational.
Although an official opening date for the new Bethesda location has not yet been announced, anticipation is high among fans eagerly awaiting the return of this beloved establishment.
According to its website, Mussel Bar draws inspiration from Chef Wiedmaier’s experiences in his youth, where he would unwind with kitchen colleagues late at night over simple food and good music. The original Bethesda location served as a testament to his dedication to honoring Belgian culinary traditions, setting the stage for a gastronomic journey that continues to captivate diners.
