New and Upcoming Restaurants to Rio in Gaithersburg (November 2023)

Coming Soon : Han Spot

In May, we shared news about the owner of China Garden and Han Palace opening a new restaurant at Rio, taking over the former Union Jack’s space. Confirmed by Rio, the new establishment will be named Han Spot. Construction is underway, with substantial changes to the interior. The owner, who announced the venture on social media, is known for her popular dim sum menu at Han Palace. Featuring a variety of dishes such as scallops, shrimp, pork/crab dumplings, and Peking duck, Han Spot is set to become a welcome addition to Rio Gaithersburg. While the opening date remains unconfirmed, a mid to late 2024 launch seems plausible. Stay tuned for further updates.

Coming Soon: Le Macaron

Exciting news as permanent signage graces Le Macaron’s future location at 7 Grand Corner Ave, next to BurgerFi. Owned by MoCo residents Natalia Mejia and Camilo Beltran, this Florida-based pastry shop boasts over 70 locations nationwide. Anticipated to open in the coming months, the Rio establishment will offer an array of delectable treats, including macarons in 20 flavors, gourmet chocolates, French gelato, specialty European-style coffees, classic French pastries, and homemade candies. Keep an eye out for the official opening, as this sweet addition enhances the Rio shopping experience. Image courtesy of Le Macaron

Coming Soon: Copper Canyon Dining Pier on the Lake

Exciting plans are underway at Copper Canyon Grill as the restaurant awaits approval for a 1,012 square foot covered dining pier on the picturesque RIO Lake. The proposal, which received unanimous approval from the planning commission in September, envisions a beautiful outdoor dining area extending from the existing boardwalk. Accessible via two gangways, the structure will stand 12 feet tall, offering guests a unique and scenic dining experience. Gaithersburg Planning Staff supports the project, emphasizing its alignment with the approved sketch plan and Schematic Development Plan SDP-9462-2023. With no specific timeframe announced, the dining pier promises to enhance the utilization of the lake and provide additional outdoor seating for Copper Canyon patrons. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting addition to the Rio Washingtonian community.
