New Restaurant Set to Replace Tara Thai in Rockville

On Sunday, we reported that Tara Thai will be permanently closing its Rockville location at 12071 Rockville Pike in Montrose Crossing at the end of the month, according to a restaurant representative. Since then, a sign has been posted stating that the restaurant will be closed for renovations and will reopen soon “with a fresh new look and enhanced services.” A representative clarified that a new restaurant, under new ownership and management, will be taking its place.

The sign on the door reads:

“Dear Valued Customers,

Our restaurant will be closed for renovation starting July 1st. We are excited to bring you an even better dining experience and appreciate your understanding during this time. We look forward to welcoming you back soon with a fresh new look and enhanced services.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Best Regards, Management”

The longtime local favorite will be closing its doors forever on Sunday, June 30th. It is unknown how long the renovations will take before the new restaurant opens. As of now, we do not have a name for the upcoming restaurant.

Tara Thai closed its Westfield Montgomery Mall location (7101 Democracy Blvd, Bethesda) last year, and Brio’s Chicken has taken over that spot. The Gaithersburg location, at 9811 Washington Blvd in Rio, closed in April 2022 and has since been replaced by Charley Prime. There is no word yet on any possible replacement for the restaurant at the shopping center.
