New Ukrainian Restaurant Opens Maryland Location

Ruta Ukrainian Restaurant was set to open at 4862 Cordell Ave in Bethesda, taking over the space formerly occupied by Momo Chicken. The restaurant has now officially opened its doors for lunch and dinner, as announced on their social media channels.

“We’re thrilled to bring the flavors of Ukraine to Bethesda! Come join us this week for a delightful lunch or dinner, and help us improve our service with your feedback. Welcome to our Bethesda location!” Ruta also operates a location at 327 7th St SE in Washington, DC. The menu features a variety of Ukrainian dishes, including Varenyky (Ukrainian dumplings), Chicken Kyiv, Meat Holubtsi (meat-stuffed cabbage with sour cream), and more.

According to their website, “Ruta” is not just a beautiful sounding word; it also represents a remarkable flower rooted in ancient Ukrainian myths and legends. The legends of the Carpathians tell of the “Red Ruta,” a yellow flower that, on the magical night of Ivana Kupala, turns a fiery red for just a few minutes. The legend goes on to say that whoever finds and plucks the flower during those few fleeting moments will find true love. We hope our “Ruta” becomes your true love.”
