NYC’s Chip City Sets Date for Opening First DMV Location

Chip City, a renowned cookie bakery from New York, will be establishing its first Maryland location at the Shoppes of Bethesda, taking over the space previously occupied by Fancy Cakes By Leslie at 4939 Elm St. Following Fancy Cakes by Leslie’s closure in October 2022, a commercial permit was issued in the summer for a $210,000 buildout at the location. The much-anticipated opening date has now been revealed – Chip City will officially open its doors on Friday, November 3rd.

Originally starting as a side hustle for Theodore Gailas and Peter Phillips five years ago, Chip City has expanded its footprint to over a dozen cookie shops in and around New York. The brand is now poised for rapid growth beyond the New York area, with plans to open over 20 stores in 2023. Forbes reports that this expansion is supported by Danny Meyer, the founder of the fast-casual restaurant Shake Shack, who recently invested $10 million in the cookie enterprise.

Chip City’s cookie selection includes 18 rotating flavors, allowing customers to choose from a weekly menu that features “core cookies” like chocolate chip or dairy-free chocolate chip, along with unique flavors such as blueberry cheesecake, peanut butter and jelly, Nutella sea salt, and more. The bakery also offers seasonal options, with current offerings including Thanksgiving-inspired cookies like Pecan Pie, Sweet Potato S’mores, Pumpkin Spice Latte, and White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal.
