Official Opening Date Announced for MoCo’s First Wawa Location

Wawa is gearing up to celebrate the grand opening of its first Montgomery County location at 405 S Frederick Ave (355) in Gaithersburg on Thursday, March 7.

The festivities kick off at 7:45 a.m., with the General Manager leading the countdown to the momentous occasion when the doors swing open for the very first time at 8:00 a.m. The first 100 customers will snag free “In My Wawa Era 60th Anniversary” t-shirts (while supplies last), and everyone can enjoy complimentary any-size hot coffee throughout the day. Following the opening, at 8:30 a.m., customers are invited to join in a brief ceremony highlighting Wawa’s community impact, featuring the signature Hoagies for Heroes hoagie building competition between local police and fire departments, culminating in an official ribbon-cutting ceremony with the beloved mascot, Wally Goose!

The store occupies the site of the old Becraft Antiques, situated across from Gaithersburg High School.

The journey to bring Wawa to Montgomery County began in May of 2019, with initial plans to open by the end of 2020. Despite the nearly five-year wait since signing on, Wawa remains committed to serving the Montgomery County community and has even submitted an application for a second location in the county.
