Permit Granted to Transform Former Arby’s into a McDonald’s

Arby’s closed its final Montgomery County location at 11710 Rockville Pike in North Bethesda back in May 2021. Now, McDonald’s will be moving into the space, with a permit valued at $1.15 million issued to kick off construction, according to Maryland Newsletters.

There is already a McDonald’s nearby at 11564 Rockville Pike, which was recently renovated, just one block from the upcoming location. However, the new McDonald’s at the former Arby’s site isn’t expected to open until sometime in 2025. Employees at the current location mentioned they believe it might close when the new store opens. A key difference between the two locations is that the new McDonald’s will feature a drive-thru, which the existing one lacks.

In June 2021 Washington Business Journal (WBJ) reported that Shake Shack would be moving into the 11710 Rockville Pike space, but the deep negotiations fell through and the space has remained vacant for  more than three years.
