Royal Farms made its debut in Montgomery County with the opening of its first location in Gaithersburg in 2022. Known for its popular fried chicken, the convenience store chain is now progressing with plans for a new location in Silver Spring, as reported by Source of the Spring.
Previously announced plans indicated that Royal Farms would occupy the site of a former Sunoco gas station at 9475 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, with applications submitted to the county’s Department of Permitting Services. The recent report from Source of the Spring confirms that commercial building permit applications have been filed with the county, signaling progress in the development.
Interestingly, this forthcoming Silver Spring location marks the first of the three major convenience store chains—Royal Farms, Sheetz, and Wawa—that have recently expanded into the county, excluding Gaithersburg. Meanwhile, Sheetz is set to open a second location in Gaithersburg at the Walnut Hill shopping center.
According to Robert Dyer’s report, although the construction permit for the new Royal Farms has been posted, the location has not yet been listed in the “Coming Soon!” section of the Maryland chain’s website. Updates on construction commencement and anticipated opening dates will be provided as they become available.
