Back in December, we shared news about Punta Cana Tropical Grill, a fresh addition to the culinary scene, poised to occupy the former spot of Tropics Ice Cream & Jerk at 9324 Georgia Ave in Silver Spring. The restaurant’s signage now adorns the premises.
Equipment from the previous establishment was cleared out starting in January, paving the way for Punta Cana’s construction to commence shortly after. The signage was erected last month, with the original plan targeting a Spring 2024 grand opening.
Following the closure of Tropics Ice Cream & Jerk earlier in 2023, the transition to a new tenant was swift. Punta Cana Tropical Grill, touting itself as a “fast food Dominican style” eatery, eagerly took up the reins. “As soon as I saw the post about it closing, I went for it!! It’s a busy road I know people will stop here to try it out. Silver Spring has a unique diverse community with an appetite for Dominican dishes,” the owner shares.
Acknowledging the challenges of finding quality eats on the go, the owner adds, “I understand how hard it is to stop for food and get good food, so I came up with the idea to put a fast food Dominican carryout.” The establishment holds special significance for the owner, being situated in their hometown of Silver Spring. “Our fast food concept will be a hit!” they exclaim.
