Tacos Don Perez is set to inaugurate its latest venture at 3784 Howard Ave in Kensington on Sunday, March 3, marking the grand opening of its newest location. Nestled within the space formerly occupied by K-Town Bistro, this addition promises to bring a fresh culinary experience to the area.
As per the restaurant’s Instagram page, details regarding “specials and opening festivities” for the occasion will be unveiled shortly, adding an element of anticipation to the event.
The journey of Tacos Don Perez traces back to its humble beginnings as a small, family-operated catering business in 2017. However, it wasn’t until May 2020, amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, that the enterprise transformed into a once-a-week home-based pop-up. Despite the adversity, the pop-up garnered remarkable support from the local community, consistently selling out within hours each week. Encouraged by the unwavering backing of their patrons, the family seized the opportunity to acquire and custom-build their very own food truck, which now finds its home in the Glenmont shopping center at 12321 Georgia Ave.
In a significant milestone in March 2022, the family expanded their presence by unveiling what they affectionately refer to as “the biggest food trailer in Montgomery County” at the same Glenmont location. Notably, while Glenmont continues to operate, the inauguration of the Kensington restaurant marks Tacos Don Perez’s inaugural foray into brick-and-mortar establishments, representing a pivotal moment in their culinary journey.
