In April, we informed you that Copper Canyon Grill sought approval for a 1,012-square-foot covered dining pier on the RIO Lake at 100 Boardwalk Place. This new addition, known as “The Barge,” is currently in its soft launch phase, and a video showcasing it is available below.
Access to the pier is provided via two gangways connected to the existing boardwalk. The barge features approximately a dozen tables, each accommodating four diners. The area above the waterline and below the floor level is clad in cedar wood planks, while both the structural columns and roof are crafted from wood. The roof is topped with architectural asphalt shingles and prefinished metal fascia, designed to match the existing restaurant building. A 3′-4″ steel railing system surrounds all four sides of the barge for safety.
Copper Canyon Grill, with four locations across Maryland, is known for offering “full-flavored, fresh American cuisine in a casual, energetic atmosphere.” According to the restaurant, “Located in the heart of Rio Shopping Center, Copper Canyon Grill boasts a spacious dining room and a variety of private dining experiences. Our four-season terrace overlooks the lake and vibrant boardwalk. Our scratch kitchen serves a range of hearty salads and entrées, including our signature wood-fired rotisserie chicken, alongside daily chef-prepared specials. Copper Canyon Grill is proud to be the only certified green restaurant in Gaithersburg, MD.”
