The Block Food Hall, which featured “various unique Asian eateries in an upbeat community-focused setup with a bar, sports on TV, and weekend DJs nightlife,” at 967 Rose Ave in North Bethesda has closed as doors were locked with most of the space cleared out on Sunday.
Speculation about The Block’s closure began circulating as early as January, with vendors gradually departing in the preceding months. One of the last remaining tenants, Little Miner Tacos, has relocated to a temporary pop-up kitchen at 12712 Rock Creek Mill Rd AA in Rockville while awaiting the completion of its standalone location at Rockville Town Square. Updates will be provided if any other Block vendors reopen at new sites.
Last spring, The Block temporarily suspended alcohol sales for several weeks and subsequently adjusted its operating hours, no longer extending service past 10pm, effectively eliminating its nightlife offerings.
Despite efforts to obtain clarification from food hall representatives in recent months, no official comments have been forthcoming. While speculation suggests a Japanese Izakaya may occupy the space next, confirmation remains elusive. Currently, the site is listed as “To Be Determined” on the Federal Realty listing page.
There is an additional The Block location in a Annandale, VA who told us in March that they were no longer affiliated with the Pike & Rose location.
