Construction continues at the site of Montgomery County’s inaugural Wawa, situated on Route 355 in Gaithersburg. The convenience store and gas station, located at the former Becraft Antiques site (405 S Frederick Ave.), has recently posted an opening timeframe of “December” on its Google listing. Although initially planned for the end of 2020, there’s now a likelihood of Wawa’s opening in early January. Job listings for various positions were added to the store’s website late this past summer, signaling progress.
As we enter December, we anticipate a more precise opening date, as Wawa typically updates its store opening information at the beginning of each month. However, potential delays are not uncommon. Additionally, a development application has been submitted for a second Montgomery County Wawa.
Originally reported in May 2019, Montgomery County’s first Wawa had initial plans for a 2020 opening. The current timeline suggests an opening approximately three years after the originally planned date.
Wawa, with its roots dating back to 1803, began as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Over the years, it evolved into a renowned convenience retail chain, offering fresh, built-to-order foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and more. The family-owned business, with over 950 stores across several states, has become a go-to destination for quality and convenience.
