The Restaurant Association of Maryland (RAM) annually honors outstanding individuals in both the “front of house” and “back of house” positions, recognizing their skills, dedication, and leadership qualities within the industry. This year, Chef Gregory Webb of Laperaux Bistro in Germantown emerges as Montgomery County’s sole finalist for the prestigious ‘Chef of the Year’ award.
These awards acknowledge professionals who consistently demonstrate excellence and commitment to the culinary field. Following public nominations, RAM shortlists five finalists in each category, with the winners determined through public voting. The awards ceremony takes place at RAM’s annual gala, scheduled for Sunday, April 14th, from 6:00 – 10:00 PM at Maryland Live! Casino.
Chef Gregory Webb boasts an impressive culinary journey, marked by accolades such as “Chef of the Year 1998” in Houston, Texas, and winning in all categories at the Texas Open Wild Game Cookoff. He has also received recognition as one of the “Top Chefs of Mexico City” and secured numerous other awards throughout his career. In the previous year, he introduced Laperaux Bistro in Germantown, offering a menu of “high casual cuisine” crafted by the chef himself. Webb’s culinary prowess extends beyond the restaurant, as he has competed against renowned chefs like Bobby Flay on The Food Network. Furthermore, he has triumphed in various ‘chopped style’ competitions organized for local charity and fundraising events, including the DC Central Kitchen’s Chefs Cook Off. Chef Gregory Webb’s nomination for the ‘Chef of the Year’ award is a testament to his remarkable contributions and accomplishments in the culinary world.
