According to Taiwan Sister Cities, the 2023 Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival will proceed rain or shine, as announced after their recent board meeting. The festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd, from 10 am to 4 pm at Rockville Town Square. Organized by Taiwan Sister Cities, an entity dedicated to fostering intercultural understanding and cooperation between the United States and Taiwan, the event will feature vendors like Tiger Sugar, Cuppa Tea, ShareTea, Kyoto Macha, Blowfish Poke & Grill, and more.
This year’s festival aims to serve as an opportunity for individuals interested in learning Mandarin. Taiwan Sister Cities will provide information on Mandarin learning resources and opportunities, showcasing Taiwan’s quality institutions offering Mandarin classes to non-native speakers. The organization has also established Taiwan Centers for Mandarin Learning (TCML) and sends qualified Mandarin lecturers to educational institutions in the United States. Currently, there are 54 TCMLs in the U.S., including locations in Chantilly, Virginia; Burke, Virginia; Potomac, Maryland; and Baltimore, Maryland.
To further encourage American students to learn Mandarin in Taiwan, organizers have set up a dedicated “Learn & Study in Taiwan” website. This platform introduces opportunities, provides testimonials from previous students, and offers a FAQ section with valuable information for prospective learners. Additionally, a Taiwanese cultural center in Gaithersburg, Maryland, serves as a hub promoting Taiwanese culture, education, and business opportunities. The center, open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is an excellent resource for locals interested in Mandarin language learning.
