Coming Soon: The DMV’s First Drive-Thru Vietnamese Restaurant

Tuan Vo, a native of Montgomery County, is the proud owner of Phowheels. Raised in the area, he attended White Oak Middle School and later graduated from Springbrook High School in 2008. Currently residing in Burtonsville, Vo is gearing up to introduce the DMV’s inaugural drive-thru Vietnamese restaurant at Burtonsville Crossing come late fall.

Vo’s journey with Phowheels began in 2012 when he encountered the food truck and its delectable offerings for the first time. The owner, who is now a close friend and business partner, presented Vo with the opportunity to acquire the business in 2017. Eager to embark on this culinary venture, Vo, along with his family, embraced the challenge and seamlessly transitioned into the food truck scene.

“We started to take Phowheels all over the DMV, especially Montgomery County being that’s where we’re from. Serving up innovative Vietnamese food such as our infamous Vietnamese pork belly tacos, Vietnamese birria aka Bo khirria, pho, banh mi on a croissant and a lot of cool specials,” Vo shared enthusiastically.

Last October marked a significant milestone for Phowheels as they launched their first brick-and-mortar store in Arlington, VA. Thanks to JBG Smith’s support, the opportunity to expand their menu and business arose at the water park in National Landing. Vo expressed his desire to extend Phowheels’ reach into Maryland, particularly Montgomery County. With EDENS unveiling a new shopping center in Burtonsville, Vo saw this as the perfect opportunity to deeply embed himself within the local community.

Partnering with EDENS, Phowheels will introduce a dine-in and drive-thru experience, a first of its kind in the DMV for Vietnamese cuisine. “Now we’re looking forward to serving the Burtonsville community and all of the surrounding communities around us! We look forward to seeing all of our phowheelers in late fall! Thank you for taking the time to read my story!” Vo exclaimed eagerly, expressing his anticipation to serve the community he calls home.
