Downtown Crown, the retail and dining hub in Gaithersburg’s Crown neighborhood, marked its opening in 2014, featuring Harris Teeter as an anchor and a lineup of notable restaurants like Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Coastal Flats, Paladar Latin Kitchen, and La Madeleine Country French Café. While several establishments remain operational, there have been recent changes in the landscape over the past nine years. Here, we’ll explore recent closures, existing vacancies, and an exciting upcoming addition.
BurgerIM, an Israeli burger chain, permanently closed its doors earlier this year after operating for about three and a half years at 200 Ellington Blvd. Doki Toki, an Asian bakery and dessert shop that succeeded Mango Mango in May 2022, shuttered in early summer after just over a year at 202 Ellington Blvd. Old Town Pour House, one of the original tenants in Downtown Crown, bid farewell last month after an 8.5-year run at 212 Ellington Blvd.
In addition to the three aforementioned vacant spaces, there are also empty storefronts between Cinnaholic and La Madeleine, as well as between Ideal Image and Bath & Body Works (which opened at the beginning of this year). The Container Store is set to occupy the space that was formerly Great Gatherings at 201 Ellington Blvd. Stay tuned for updates as new tenants join and fill the available spaces. Below is a social media post from @MrMoCo301 from before Crown’s initial opening.
