Gong Cha and Kyo Matcha Shut Down Shop at The Block in Pike & Rose; Future of Food Hall Uncertain

Gong cha and Kyo Matcha, formerly known as Kyoto Matcha, have recently closed their doors within The Block Foodhall & Bar situated at 967 Rose Ave. in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose area, as reported by the Instagram account @pike.and.rozay.

Gong cha is a well-known Taiwanese beverage franchise renowned for its bubble tea and coffee offerings. Meanwhile, Kyo Matcha specialized in matcha tea-infused desserts, including cakes, ice cream, and mochi. Among the remaining vendors within The Block are Little Miner Tacos, OMA Sushi & Oyster Bar, and The Block Bar.

A spokesperson from The Block had previously mentioned the possibility of closure or continuation of operations during our conversation last month. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the Annandale, VA location of The Block has confirmed that they are no longer associated with the Pike & Rose establishment.

While there have been rumors circulating about a potential Japanese Izakaya taking over the vacant space, concrete details remain elusive. As of now, the site is marked as “To Be Determined” on the Federal Realty listing page. We will diligently update as soon as more information becomes available.
