Okaeri Japanese Cafe, translating to “Welcome Home” in Japanese, is set to open soon in the Shops at Congressional Village in Rockville. This new location will occupy the space formerly held by Eerkins Uygher Cuisine at 1701 Rockville Pike # B1. Eerkins closed in May 2022 due to a kitchen fire and reopened at a different Rockville location in March 2023.
Okaeri Japanese Cafe already has an established presence in Centreville. The cafe is known for offering a variety of traditional Japanese bites and desserts, including fruit sandwiches, Onigiri, Dorayaki (Japanese sweet-filled pancakes), and more. While an exact opening date is not available, signage in the windows indicates that the restaurant is “opening soon.”
The auction of The Shops at Congressional Village, a multi-tenant retail shipping center and a leasehold interest on the first floor of 192 Halpine Rd in Rockville, took place on October 12th, 2022. The winning bid of $44 million was secured by the IVEA restaurant group, known for local establishments like Gyuzo BBQ, Gong Cha, The Spot, Kyoto Matcha, Lao Sze Chuan, and more. Additionally, Chicago-based Windfall Group LLC, part of the winning team, intends to add more restaurants to the shopping center. Currently, The Shops at Congressional Village houses various businesses, including 7-Eleven, Armand’s Pizza, Mosaic, Goldfish Swim School, and others.
